HDT to add 120 jobs, invest $4 million at manufacturing plant in Tanner

TANNER, Ala. - On Tuesday morning, city and state leaders joined HDT Global in Limestone County to announce the company is adding jobs and workspace in the coming months.

HDT Global will add 120 jobs and invest $4 million in developing 206,500 additional square feet of production space.  Eighty people currently work at the plant making generators, heaters, robotics and other technologies for military and civilian industries.  HDT plans to be at full capacity by the end of the year, the company said.

"The new facility offers increased production capacity, while decreasing overhead costs and streamlining related production processes into one geographic area, strategically located in Huntsville," said Michael Kinney, Vice President of Operations.

Sean Bond, President and CEO, added, “The decision to move our shelter manufacturing facility was thoughtfully made. Ultimately, this transition is best for the benefit of the warfighter and the benefit of our organization. The impact will be increased competitiveness and value in our operations, and the opportunity for HDT to grow in a highly competitive global market. We expect HDT Huntsville to become the premier military production facility across all of Northern Alabama.”

Gov. Robert Bentley said this announcement is continued proof industries like our state because they keep expanding here.

"They choose Alabama because we have an environment in this state that is second to none, we have workforce training that is second to none, and we have people that are second to none," said Gov. Bentley.

HDT will transition its manufacturing operations based in Buena Vista, VA to the expanded facility in Tanner. The plant is located at 5951 Endeavor Way, just off Bibb Garrett Road.

"This is a partnership between the state, Limestone county, the legislature, and with our local community," said Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle.

HDT is located in Tanner, in the westernmost portion of the Huntsville City Limits but in Limestone County.  Battle said all entities have worked together to put the infrastructure in place, including roads, sewer and other plans.
