HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – With the start of school just a weeks away, a group of barbers in the community were looking for a way to give back. On Saturday, Hibbett’s & City Gear partnered with local barbers to host “Cutz for Kids,” giving free haircuts before school starts back.
From noon-4 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, barbers were be on-site at Hibbett & City Gear (2250 Sparkman Drive), cutting hair on a first come, first served basis.
“It’s powerful in my opinion,” said Hibbett Sports manager Khadir Donneol. “Us being able to do this for free is cool.”
The event included fun for the whole family with a school supplies giveaway, music, and snow cones.
Organizers said they were happy to be able to make an impact on the community.
“We closed down the shop and gave back today,” said barber Bivens Mayo. “We started out with a guy named Don doing something called love, food and cuts, and he passed away. They asked us here to do this, and we jumped at the opportunity.”
Saturday’s Cutz For Kids in Huntsville is part of a series of events being held all across the country to get kids excited about the new school year and give them the opportunity to head back in style.
