HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A Huntsville man is out on bond for the second time this year.

Jail records show that police arrested Steve Ray Shickles on theft of property charges on Thursday, July 18th.

In January, the former CEO of Simple Helix was sued by his company, accused of taking more than 2.5 million dollars in customer payments for personal use.

Since then, Lt. Michael Johnson with the Huntsville Police Department says, Shickles entered into an LLC with someone else. When his new business partner learned Shickles had been arrested in January for embezzlement, he looked into their LLC bank account. Johnson says he noticed Shickles took out an unauthorized amount of money from their business together.

Police have not disclosed how much Shickles is accused of stealing, but his charge listed in Madison County jail view indicates it was more than $2,500. Police say the FBI has taken over both this case and the previous one.

In January, Shickles resigned as CEO from simple Helix.  Later that month the company’s owners sued him. He was eventually arrested, accused of embezzling millions from the company.

According to the lawsuit against Shickles, he took more than $2.5 million in customer payments over several years and funneled them into a personal account.

The lawsuit also claims additional payments were made from simple Helix to Shickles`s credit card without statements or invoices, as well as questionable payments made to both his personal account and vendors without supporting documentation to justify them.

In February, Shickles’ attorney filed a response explaining his side to the story – saying simple Helix’s finances were mismanaged and he made charges on his personal credit card in order to operate the company. He is asking the court to order the repayment of tens of thousands of dollars.
