MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A father and son were both involved in a wreck overnight. According to Alabama State Troopers, the father hit the son head-on. The wreck happened around midnight.
Troopers say the father, Alan Wayne Gentle, crossed his sedan into oncoming traffic on Colemont Lane off Winchester Road and ran head on into his son, Alan Ryan Gentle, who was driving a Tahoe. The father was taken to Huntsville Hospital in critical condition. Troopers say alcohol may have been a factor in the wreck. Colemont Lane was blocked for about an hour while troopers cleared the scene.
Alabama State Trooper Curtis Summerville explains, "We'd have to get a test involved, and we have to wait on the results of those tests. But based on our initial investigation, we do believe alcohol played a part during the crash."
However, Summerville does make clear the investigation is still in the early stages, "We gather all the information at the scene in terms of the physical evidence there at the scene, in terms of the vehicle, any gouge marks, skid marks, things of that nature. Then we have to actually interview the people involved, or witnesses if there are any witnesses involved."
