HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT)– Huntsville Fire and Rescue, HEMSI, and Huntsville Police crews responded to a fire on Haynes Avenue late Sunday morning.

The home was located near Isabelle Circle in Northeast Huntsville.

According to people living in the home, the fire started in a bedroom toward the back of the house.

The man told WHNT News 19 he tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher, but the room was filling with too much smoke and the fire was growing. Instead, he called for help and got his family out safely.

Fire crews arrived on scene shortly after and were able to contain the blaze to the second floor in that bedroom area.

The room was damaged by fire and smoke, and the family can not stay in their home tonight.

The American Red Cross was on-scene around noon to help, and an investigator is working to determine what caused the fire.
