Events Planned This Week To Mark Cummings Research Park’s 50th Anniversary

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – This year marks the 50th anniversary of Cummings Research Park in Huntsville, and there are several events planned this week to celebrate the milestone.

Cummings Research Park is the second largest research and technology park in the United States, and fourth largest in the world.  It is home to Fortune 500 companies, U.S. space and defense agencies and local and international high-tech start-ups as well.

Here are some of the events taking place this week:

Monday, October 15

10 a.m. – Several local and state dignitaries attended a proclamation signing at ADTRAN.

11:30 a.m. – luncheon at the Jackson Center on the HudsonAlpha campus, with Governor Bentley and Redstone/Marshall officials attending

5 to 9 p.m. – Free outdoor concert at Bridge Street, which is located in the middle of Cummings Research Park.  Bands include DiscOasis, Mambo Gris Gris and Unknown Lyric.  Also at Bridge Street, several companies will have displays of technologies developed and used by Redstone Arsenal and Marshall Space Flight Center.

Tuesday, October 16

Technology Summit at the Jackson Center, Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.  The keynote speaker is Frank Kendall, Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics.
