HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Huntsville Police are investigating an early morning fatal shooting involving at least two teenagers, one of whom died.

Police have confirmed that 16-year-old Robert Dante Hewlett of Huntsville was the teenager who was killed.

Officers and emergency responders got involved around 2 a.m. when they were called to the intersection of McVay Street and Belvoir Drive in southwest Huntsville.

That's where police, fire officials and HEMSI found a car that had driven through a yard and crashed into several parked cars nearby.

Police say there were two teenagers in the car who had been shot.  One was shot in the neck and the other in the chest.

Paramedics took both of the teenagers to Huntsville Hospital in critical condition.  One eventually succumbed to his injuries.  Police say the teen who died was 16 years old.

While police were on the scene of the shooting, they saw a man running away from the area. They chased him, but he got away.

Minutes later, someone living in an apartment in the 3600 block of Patton Road called police to report a man covered in blood had broken into the apartment.

Police took one person into custody who matched the description of the man police were chasing.

They have not released further details yet.
