HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - A video of trucks sliding on ice on Jones Valley Drive shows a chilling sound that no car-owner wants to hear.
The sound of cars colliding, falling victim to ice, gravity, and other vehicles.
One person in the video is seen putting his hands on his head, he owns one of the trucks that were pushed down the hill.
"[One of the drivers] hit pretty much every car on the street," said Garrett Thornton. "It was a disaster in a matter of maybe thirty minutes."
The recent University of Alabama grad was coming down the road Friday when he parked at the top of the hill realizing the ice was too much to risk driving through.
Living less than a mile away, he called his father, planning to walk to the bottom of the hill.
"As soon as I got on the phone with him, I saw a Tahoe in my rear view mirror and I knew exactly what was about to happen," he laughed.
Crazy part is -- that was the first wreck, but not the one seen in the video.
"I didn’t get back in the car after that because I didn’t want anything else bad to happen so I got out," he said.
His truck and the Tahoe sitting together, a third pickup skidded into them less than fifteen minutes later.
The vehicles involved were sitting in their newly 'assigned' parking spaces Saturday morning as Thornton and other owners showed up to move their cars -- about fifty yards from where he parked it the day before.
"I guess I'll get my car, get it fixed. I don't really know what do besides that," he said.
He believes he got off easy and that the video made it seem worse than it really was.
"Four hundred thousand people have viewed it already. I didn't know it was going to be that big of a deal," he said.
The Tahoe involved has a busted radiator, a red pickup has its bumper ripped up, and Thornton's GMC sustained rear bumper damage. But he was fortunate enough to drive his car off the hill Saturday.
"It's not a situation to place blame," he said. "It's an unfortunate situation. But you can't really do anything about it. It's nobody's fault, I'm just glad no one got hurt."
