MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) – A couple is scheduled to stand trial Thursday for charges relating to their daughter’s death in Madison two years ago.
Kristopher and Joy Lynn Speigner are charged with criminally negligent homicide in the death of their 18-month-old daughter McKenzie.
Both will appear for a bench trial at 1:30 p.m. at the Madison County Courthouse.
Police say the toddler swallowed a dishwasher gel pack, but the parents were too intoxicated to do anything to help her. This happened in 2012 in an apartment at Colonial Lake Drive in Madison.
Criminally negligent homicide is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison.
