HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-- At Wednesday's Madison County Commission meeting, District Four commissioner Phil Vandiver continues his effort to bring more recreation options to his community.

The commission approved an agreement that would get the ball rolling on a possible new sportsplex off Wall Triana Hwy.

District four commissioner Phil Vandiver said there's always a need for more recreation facilities in his district, so they continue to look for ways to help with that.

"We realized that, in some of the things we've done in one of the schools they may have lost some playing fields for soccer, so we were trying to come up with a solution for that," he explained.

There is a piece of property that's available off Wall Triana Hwy that Vandiver is now eyeing for his next project.

"There's a part of that property that has some open fields on the north side that we're looking at to see if we can put as much of that in to soccer fields as possible," he said.

Wednesday, the county commission voted to take the first steps toward making this a reality, and started the process of hiring a site planner.

"To go out and make sure he can look and do the plans to make sure what can fit in there and utilize that ground to the most advantages for the citizens," said Vandiver.

Vandiver said his district is an area that has big potential growth, with a lot of open land.

"If we can bring some of the facilities in to make that an area more attractive to folks to move in I think it can be a win-win for everybody in the county," he said.

Commissioner Vandiver is also currently working on another recreation center they hope to build off Pulaski Pike.
