HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – If you use Lakewood Park in northwest Huntsville, we have some good news.  The park is debuting a new tennis court and walking trail.

Lakewood Park is located at the intersection of York Road and Kenwood Drive.  The $275,000 upgrade was funded by the City of Huntsville, private donations and volunteer construction hours.

“In doing that you saw the importance of having a recreation program, the value of the recreation program in the community where kids come from all over the community come here and gather here and combine this with the neighborhood,” said Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle.  “It turns into a community.”

Lakewood Park also has soccer, basketball, and softball facilities.  The next item on the agenda is to replace the roof of the gym.  That project is scheduled for this spring.
