HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Christmas Eve is a magical night for many children and it was celebrated in a unique way at Milton Frank Stadium. In Huntsville thousands gathered to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ before going home to await St. Nick’s arrival.
Milton Frank Stadium is the new home to the Willowbrook Baptist Christmas service. Since 2010 the outdoor Christmas extravaganza has been held at Joe Davis Stadium and this year it moved to Milton Frank and roughly five thousand people followed.
"Tonight was amazing,” shared Willowbrook Pastor, Mark McClelland. "We filled the stands to overflowing, there were people on the field itself."
A true sight to behold, nearly five thousand people flocked to the service. And hours before the celebration kicked off hundreds of people came out to tailgate outside the stadium.
Once the service started at 5:00 pm, the stadium was filled with thousands creating a creating a community of believers.
"This is a tradition for folks and they come here and we celebrate the Christmas story and what it means," shared Pastor McClelland.
The hour long service was complete with glow sticks, prayers and a lightsaber. The big finale was a grand firework show synced to Joy to the World. The impressive display captured the emotion of the night; bursting in spirit and excitement.
"It's way bigger than our church,” said Pastor McClelland. “It's a community wide thing."
