HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A brother and sister charged with murder in connection with a 2012 case pleaded guilty Tuesday at the Madison County Courthouse. Jovontai Qudruis Dickerson and Javonta Qudaria Dickerson, who are twins, pleaded guilty in the death of Jarrod Lockett.
Prosecutors say Jovontai Dickerson was the shooter and pleaded guilty to murder. He was sentenced to 25 years. Jovanta Dickerson pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 20 years.
The victim, Lockett, was a UAH student. Investigators say Lockett allegedly ran a fake escort service. They say he posed as a madam named Ashley and recruited women to have sex with clients, but they say Lockett was the only client.
Court documents state once the women found they weren’t going to be paid, they confronted Lockett and Jovontai Dickerson shot him outside an apartment complex on Old Madison Pike.
Prosecutor Jay Town said the guilty pleas are the outcome of much commitment.
“The result of hard work by the District Attorney’s office, by our investigators, by the original investigation and quite frankly by facts,” said Town.
He adds that Lockett’s family can finally move forward.
“I do believe that this was a just result for the victim and the victim’s family,” said Town.
