HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Huntsville Police are investigating what they say may be the city's first murder of the year.  Officers say relatives called them when they went to a home on Maggie Avenue and found 54-year-old Delois Lightford dead.

Lightford has lived in Alabama for several years and has four grandchildren.

Family members told WHNT News 19 crews on the scene that Lightford had been shot at least twice in the back. Her body was found in an upstairs bedroom.

Crime scene investigators were inside the home for several hours Friday evening and could be seen taking photos and bringing out several boxes of evidence from inside the home.

This marks the first murder investigation in Huntsville this year, according to Huntsville Police.

There have been no arrests made and if you have any information you are encouraged to call police.
