HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - A Huntsville Police officer was arrested and charged with third degree assault, WHNT News 19 confirmed with Police Chief Lewis Morris Thursday.
Paige Denise Pinkerton, a 2014 Huntsville Police Academy graduate and current officer, was booked into the Madison County Jail on a third degree assault charge Thursday morning.
HPD Chief Morris says the charge follows an incident in a Huntsville restaurant/bar establishment in December of 2014. Chief Morris said a police report was taken from the victim, an employee at the establishment, that night and an internal investigation began. Pinkerton had been placed on administrative duty following the incident, but now is on paid administrative leave following her arrest.
The victim in the case decided to press criminal charges Wednesday and a warrant was issued for Pinkerton's arrest. Chief Morris says Pinkerton turned herself in at the jail Thursday morning.
Chief Morris says action was expected from the internal investigation, but before that action could be taken the victim in the case decided to press criminal charges in the case.
Pinkerton was presented her badge in June, 2014 by her own father, also a ranking HPD officer.
