HUNTSVILLE, Ala (WHNT) -  A local restaurant is ready to make more people feel blue -- blue plate, that is.  Blue Plate Cafe is known for packed parking lots at it's location on Governor's Drive. Now they have an agreement to take over where a cafe recently closed.  Victoria's Cafe operated on the South Memorial Parkway for 15 years, now that they are moving to food trucks, Blue Plate is ready to bring a second diner to south Huntsville.

"Over the past several years, we've had a lot of customers come to us and ask for us to be in south Huntsville," said Justin Sparks, manager at the diner. For those customers, food prayers have been answered. Blue Plate Cafe is opening a second location  in the place formerly known as Victoria's Cafe. The longtime business closed last week and blue plate reached an agreement with the owners to move in.

"It's a little more than double our current location, a bigger kitchen, a lot more room, to add some additional things to the menu, we look forward to that possibility," said Sparks. Blue Plate Cafe hopes to have the location up and running by late fall, but not without some concerns due to the upcoming overpass project at Byrd Springs Road.

"It was a minor concern but we've talked with the mayor, and the office has agreed to work with us as best they can, and other businesses in the area, to make sure that construction doesn't impede our business," said Sparks about the project that will construct an overpass and access roads in one 24-month phase.
The project will create traffic shift, but the Blue Plate Team looks forward to expanding south.

"We know it's a great area, a lot of good people in that area, and we just thought it was time to grow in that direction," said Sparks. According to the owner of the plaza, the Blue Plate team bought some equipment from Victoria's Cafe to be used in the new location.  Blue Plate's owners were once partners with management over at Rosie's Cantina. Both parties say they look forward to working as neighbors later this year.
