HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -  Big things are happening in Huntsville, all because of a little road.

Benaroya Lane was officially opened on Tuesday. The 260 linear feet of asphalt will serve as a connector road between Martin Road and local businesses affected by the construction on Memorial South Parkway.

Not only that, but city officials say this road will help alleviate congestion on the parkway, by providing access from Redstone Arsenal to the nearby subdivisions and businesses. "The people from the arsenal now can easily come off the arsenal and come to these businesses and then get back to the arsenal fairly easily," said Michelle Omenski, President of the South Huntsville Business Association.

Councilwoman, Jennie Robinson says this road was made possible through multiple partnerships with the City of Huntsville, ALDOT, Redstone Arsenal and mentioned the road would have never been in place had it not been for the South Huntsville Business Association speaking up, and asking for something to be done.

Phase one of the South Memorial Parkway will be finished in December of 2017, although ALDOT says the project is ahead of schedule.
