HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Attorneys for a Huntsville man accused of killing his wife and young son have requested that their client be mentally evaluated.
Stephen Marc Stone is accused of killing his 32-year-old wife Krista and their 7-year-old son Zachary in their home on Chicamauga Trail in south Huntsville in February. The Madison County Coroner said Krista Stone was strangled and Zachary Stone was strangled and drowned.
Police say Stephen Stone turned himself in to authorities in St. Clair County. Leeds Police on February 24 and urged Huntsville Police to do a welfare check on the home. Police then found the two bodies inside.
Stone has two other daughters who were not harmed that are currently in the care of their grandparents.
A judge denied bond for Stone and turned the case over to a grand jury earlier this month.
If Stone is indicted and stands trial, Madison County District Attorney Rob Broussard said his office plans to pursue the death penalty.
