Deadly explosion under investigation at plant on Maysville Road

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Madison County Sheriff's Office confirmed a man died in an explosion Tuesday at a plant on Maysville Road.

The Madison County Coroner confirms 61-year-old John Osmer of Gurley was pronounced dead following the explosion this morning.

Several agencies are at Giles & Kendall CedarSafe Mill.  This is the same business that had a fire on Saturday.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms responded, along with Huntsville Fire & Rescue, the Madison County Sheriff's Office, Central Volunteer Fire Department.

The Alabama State Fire Marshal is handling the investigation.  The incident happened Tuesday just before 8 a.m.  No further details have been released on what happened.

This is the same business that had a fire on Saturday. No one was hurt in that incident.

The plant extracts oil from cedar chips for other uses.
