HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - For more than 60 years, the Arc of Madison County has provided services to people with intellectual or developmental disabilities.  On Thursday, the agency's work was honored with a $5,000 donation from Regions Bank.

The Arc was the overall winner of the 2015 Regions Bank "What a Difference a Day Makes" contest.

Nonprofits, representing each of the 19 geographic areas served by Regions across 16 states, competed for the prize.  The Arc was the nominee of the north Alabama district.

"They do such an outstanding job," said Ron Poteat, Regions North Alabama Area President.  "The resources they have, making a difference in people's lives... we thought, what better nominee?"

As the non-profit moves toward more community-based services, Executive Director Susan Klingel says the donation will support the establishment of a food drive program.

"This money will help us as we go out and work to gather food for families in need, families that have an individual with an intellectual or developmental disability."

In securing the most votes in the online contest, the Arc also received the commitment of 100 volunteer service hours from Regions employees.
