HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A convicted murderer is back in a Madison County courtroom this week trying to get a new trial.

Nicholas Acklin is one of two men on death row for Huntsville’s cell phone murders, which happened in 1996, leaving four people dead and others wounded.

Attorneys for Acklin are seeking a new trial.  Acklin claims he had ineffective counsel during his original trial in 1998.

The Alabama Attorney General’s Office is prosecuting.  The hearing is scheduled to continue through Thursday.
