HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Huntsville Utilities has a scam alert to warn customers about. It’s a reoccurring scam that’s making a comeback this week.

This round of scams targets mainly commercial customers, and a few residential customers have complained as well. Scam callers tell customers they have 30 minutes to pay a random amount to a 1-800 number. Customers are threatened with interrupted utility service if they don’t pay.

“Mostly we want our customers to know, that’s not the way we do business, I don’t think that’s the way any of our neighbors do business either, and we are probably no alone on these scam attempts,” said Joe Gehrdes, Huntsville Utilities director of communications and public relations.

Huntsville Utilities says if you get a call like this, hang up and call them directly at (256) 535-1200 to report the scam.
