HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Huntsville Police urge you to use caution when buying an item from Craigslist.  They are investigating a few cases that involved a purchase from the website.

Police urge you to pay for the item in person, after you have inspected it.  Never agree to pay or accept payment for items through Western Union, money gram or wire transfer.

Also, when you agree to meet the seller, bring a friend.  If you’re not able to bring anyone, let someone know where you plan to meet the seller.  Try to meet the seller during daylight hours, in a public place where other people will be present.

Bring your cell phone with you during the face-to-face meeting.

If you are buying or selling expensive items, check to make sure they are authentic.  Keep any expensive items you are selling locked away.  Also, don’t publicize your street address.

Whenever possible, try to buy or sell items locally so you meet a buyer or seller face-to-face.  Avoid international transactions.
