HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT)-- Talk about a doughnut detour.

You may have noticed a traffic jam on North Memorial Parkway at Cook Avenue Friday. A special deal at Krispy Kreme may be the reason why. With the purchase of a dozen doughnuts, you could get a second box of a dozen glazed for just 78 cents.

It's in honor of the company's birthday. We sent a crew through the drive-thru in StormHunter19, and it took just over an hour for them to get out, doughnuts in-hand.

Customers say it's worth the wait though.

Alyson Mavromat told WHNT News 19, "It's 24 doughnuts for cheap. Real cheap. And we have to celebrate Krispy Kreme's birthday!"

Randy Pierce, General Manager of the Krispy Kreme at that location, said it was a lot busier than they expected even though lines began at 5 AM.

"It's a madhouse," he said. "Traffic is everywhere, customers are everywhere in the store, and it's wild. It's a wild scene down here." He added, this is the busiest he's ever seen the store.
