HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - If you're around Downtown Huntsville on a Saturday night in the fall, you might notice groups of people enthralled in a ghost story during one of the annual Ghost Walk Tours. The frightening fun landed the tours on Livibility.com's national list of the "8 Cities with Great Ghost Tours."
"We were hoping for just a few people at a time and then within a few weeks we had 300 people in one night," Ghost Walk Co-Founder Jacque Reeves explained.
But, what you learn during the tours isn't your typical history lessons, they're infused with ghost tales and murder mystery.
"The things that people have experienced, what a medium has told us and also the history that's behind it," Tour Guide Leslie Kilgore said.
Those three facets laid a foundation for the Huntsville Ghost Walk.
"We worked with a medium who was able to verify and validate some of the stories we heard about some of the places that are haunted as well as validate the history we were able to uncover," Reeves said.
Reeves said the tours through the Twickenham District, Old Town and around Downtown Huntsville draw many repeat visitors.
"People who come and take one ghost walk and then they'll come and take all of the others and then they'll come back next year and take all of the others," Reeves said.
Through the blocks of Huntsville history in the uncertainty of nightfall, perhaps it's what they cannot see that brings them back for more.
"You never know what you're going to get, every night is different and it's a surprise," Reeves said.
You still have many opportunities for a Huntsville Ghost Walk tour. They happen each Saturday at 6:00 p.m. from the Harrison Brothers Hardware on Courthouse Square. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 and under.
