HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - An officer-involved shooting on Wilkenson Drive in Huntsville is under investigation. Authorities say the officer involved has been placed on administrative duty and the driver that was shot is facing charges.
Officials said an officer tried to make a traffic stop on Wilkenson Drive near Meridian Street around 4:30 p.m. They said the driver of the vehicle, Archie Lee Hamlet III, 40, pulled over and began talking to the officer.
Authorities said Hamlet began a physical confrontation with the officer, who was tased. Huntsville police say the officer then pulled out his gun and shot Hamlet.
Authorities say Hamlet was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries, treated and released. Police charged Hamlet with second-degree assault on a police officer and he is being held in the Madison County Metro Jail.

Officials said the officer received minor injuries during the incident and was treated at the scene.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Per policy, a shooting review board will be convened within the next two weeks. The officer will be placed on administrative duty until the conclusion of the review process.
