HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Karen Belles is just about the bravest person I know.  Battling a weight issue has been a lifelong journey for her.

But now, Belles is making serious headway. And she wants to share her story.

About 18 months or so ago she went to a wedding. Her weight was more than 400 pounds. The pictures from that wedding, paired with a visit to see her nephew, made her realize she was done.  She seriously had had enough.

"When I was up in New Jersey visiting my nephew and I couldn't play with him," she said of her reality check.

Also, Belles learned she had to make her health a priority.  But, when asked why this weight loss attempt sticks better than previous tries she said it's "because I'm doing it for myself and not for anyone else."

"I know that I have to make myself happy," said Belles. "I can't try to please everyone. For my whole life I've been trying to please people."

Weight Watchers is helping Belles on her journey.  She has lost approximately 150 pounds, so far. She said she has another 150 to go.

Belles wants to tell her story in order to help other people fight their own battles. She says you have to take it one day at a time, and you have to be patient and find support.

"You're not gonna go to sleep one night and wake up and say 'hey, I'm going to start this journey,'" she said. "It's gonna be a continuous thing. You are just going to have to stay on and stay encouraged."

Belles is talking the talk and walking the walk.  She's a brave person who understands her story can help others.
