FORT SMITH, Ark. (KFSM) - The men's basketball team at the University of Arkansas, Fort Smith held its annual toy toss game Saturday night.  Fans are asked to bring soft toys to the game and toss them onto the basketball court after the team scores its first basket.

The crowd erupted in a huge cheer after the ball went through the net and the teams quickly got off the court for all the fun.  Then came the toys!

Coach Josh Newman says it's a fun way to collect toys for children in need.

"This is so much bigger than basketball," said Newman. "The game itself allow us to do this activity but it is about reaching out to the community to give back to kids in the community, and let my guys be a part of the community. It's a great event we look forward to doing every year."

After fans are finished throwing the toys, volunteers help pick them up, including local Boy Scouts.

The annual event has collected more than 19,000 toys over the past four years.
