OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) – A circuit judge has handed down a gag order in the ethics case against indicted Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard.
Lee County Circuit Judge Jacob Walker said Friday that he was issuing the gag order to limit pretrial publicity in the case.
The order came after Hubbard’s defense attorneys sought to depose a prosecutor after he mistakenly gave a reporter a copy of a sealed motion.
Walker also granted a motion from Hubbard’s lead attorney to leave the case.
Hubbard’s trial is scheduled for March 28 and remaining defense attorney, Lance Bell, says he doesn’t think the case will be ready for trial by then.
Prosecutors have said they will object to any attempt to delay the trial.
