GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama woman charged with capital murder in the death of her baby has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

The Gadsden Times reports 36-year-old Cassie Cranford Rivera was released Tuesday from the Etowah County Detention Center.

Rivera was given a 20-year split sentence with five years to serve. She had been jailed since January 2015 and received credit for time served.

She and 40-year-old Alberto Rivera Jr. were charged in the September 2013 death of their 18-day-old son Micah Lorenzo Rivera.

An autopsy report showed the child suffered at least four skull fractures. A forensic anthropologist determined the fractures were the result of blunt force trauma.

Alberto Rivera was released earlier this year. Charges against him remain and the trial is expected to start next month.
