MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) -- Get ready for a free shopping day. Saturday, October 18, the Closet at Monrovia Church of Christ will open for families in need of new clothes. The day is for families that may be facing financial stress because of job loss, illness or other problems.
The Closet has helped more than 900 families since opening in April 2012. That's more than 3,600 people reached and almost 40,000 items distributed in the area. With colder months coming soon, the church is focused on distributing warm, winter clothing. In general, the church will provide 10 items of clothing per family member.
"We open our doors for all these cloths no questions asked, anyone who needs clothing come on out and we will provide some clothing for you," said Chase Gallimore, Monrovia Church of Christ youth minister.
The free shopping day is this Saturday, October 18 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Monrovia Church of Christ at 595 Nance Road. The Closet will distribute gently used items such as shoes, backpacks, purses,as well as, new socks and undergarments.
