MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WREG) – A surge in violence has left four dead after they were all shot during a 24-hour period this weekend in Memphis.

Police say that on Friday the first victim was killed during a robbery.

Then two people were gunned down as they walked down the street with a group.

On Saturday night, a fourth victim was killed in another robbery gone wrong.

The city is conducting a national search for a new Police Director.  Mayor Jim Stricklin has pledged to partner with the state to crack down on the surge in gang activity.

City Council Member Burlin Boyd says that, “I created a program called “Not in My Neighborhood.” We’re actually forming an ad hoc committee coming up very shortly, which will actually help the individuals and communities to fight crime but remain anonymous.”

So far there have been no arrests made in any of these cases.
