Fire crews contain blaze at Huntsville landfill on Leeman Ferry Road

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Crews battled a fire at the landfill on Leeman Ferry Road in Huntsville. Huntsville Fire and Rescue were called to the landfill fire around 4:15 a.m. Thursday morning. According to Huntsville Fire Captian Mackenzie, the fire was a surface fire around 400 yards. Huntsville fire says they worked with Solid waste disposal to extinguish the fire. Solid waste used bulldozers and a water tanker truck to put out the fire. Crews left the scene with solid waste around 5:50 a.m. without injuries. The cause of the fire is unknown but the type of fire is due to someone improperly disposing of lithium batteries in the regular trash. This is the second fire at this landfill within a month, the last fire was on Sept. 9th.
