An Etowah County man will spend 37 years behind bars for the murder of a woman from Sylvania.
Jeremy Wayne Grissom pleaded guilty in April to the May 2010 murder of Monica Michelle Payne. She graduated from Sylvania High School and moved in to Grissom’s Hokes Bluff home before her death.
Grissom faced 10 to 99 years in prison and prosecutors asked for the maximum penalty. However, this week, a judge sentenced him to 37 years.
Grissom will be 64 years old at the end of his sentence.
