ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. – Sheriff Todd Entrekin announced the passing of District Attorney Jimmie Harp Wednesday.
Harp passed away from complications from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which he was diagnosed with in 2007.
According to family members updating a Facebook page called “Praying for Jimmie,” Harp recently suffered some setbacks from his illness.
Harp and his office prosecuted several high-profile cases, including the capital murder trial of Joyce Garrard.
Sheriff Entrekin said, “Jimmie Harp was a great District Attorney who fought hard prosecuting thousands of cases for the citizens of Etowah County. He will be greatly missed by the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, employees of the District Attorney’s Office and citizens of Etowah County. I had the privilege of working with Jimmie as our careers have progressed for more than 20 years. From drug cases to capital murder cases his dedication to the people was unwavering. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”
Congressman Robert Aderholt posted this in remembrance of Harp:
