HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT)-- Fire crews are looking into what they describe as a "suspicious" apartment fire.

WHNT News 19 spoke with Chief David Button of Huntsville Fire & Rescue at the scene who said crews responded to the Anna Maria Apartment Complex a little before 11:30pm on Monday. A bystander called 911 to report smoke. Firefighters found the source of the fire in a vacant lower level apartment.

So far, fire crews aren't sure what caused the fire, but say it is suspicious for several reasons. This is not the first time this specific apartment has caught fire. Neighbors also indicate that a homeless man may have been living there at the time.

Firefighters are working to ventilate the surrounding apartments but say there was no smoke damage. Luckily, no one was injured. Button says a fire investigator is currently headed to the scene.
