TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WHNT) – After a meeting of The University of Alabama Board of Trustees on Thursday, November 1, 2012, Dr. Judy Bonner was named as the 38th president of The University of Alabama.

Dr. Bonner previously served as interim president when Dr. Guy Bailey began his duties as UA president and is currently serving as the executive vice president and provost.

“It is with great pleasure that I accept the position of president of The University of Alabama,” said Bonner. “We have so much to be proud of and so much to look forward to and, together with our alumni, fans, friends and supporters, we will remain committed to excellence and quality in everything we do.”

“Having had the pleasure of working with Dr. Bonner for the last ten years, I can say firsthand that she is one of the most intelligent, well-focused and forward-thinking academic administrators in the nation,” added Dr. Robert E. Witt, chancellor of The University of Alabama System.

Dr. Bailey resigned Wednesday, citing his wife’s health as the reason.  He joined the University in September from Texas Tech.
