HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Keeping in touch with lovedones abroad is easier than ever. That’s great news – especially for military families who often experience long deployments.

A whole range of apps are now available to help you make free or inexpensive international calls and texts.

Here are just a few to considering trying out:

Facebook Messenger – A totally separate, free app from Facebook. This app allows you to text, record voice messages and make calls to friends.

What’s App – A free phone call and texting service owned by Facebook. The great part? What’s App works with almost every type of phone and allows you to send photos, messages and make phone calls for free over a wireless network.

Libon – A service that uses your data plans to send and receive messages but won’t charge you for actual minutes spent talking.
