Desmonte Leonard, Accused Auburn Shooter, to Have Status Hearing Today

LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) -- Auburn shooting suspect Desmonte Leonard is scheduled to have a status hearing today at 2:00 p.m.

The 24-year-old is accused of shooting six people at an apartment complex in Auburn in June 2012. Three died. Leonard is charged with three counts of capital murder and two counts of assault.

Authorities say the shooting stemmed from a fight over a girl. They say the fight escalated and shots were fired. Authorities searched for three days before they found Leonard in Montgomery, where he turned himself in to U.S. Marshals.

Former Auburn football players Edward Christian and Ladarious Phillips, along with Demario Pitts died in the shooting.  Twenty-year-old John Robertson, 19-year-old Xavier Moss, and 20-year-old Eric Mack were also injured in the shooting.
