Deputies execute search warrant, seize narcotics in Madison County

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. – Investigators spent Thursday afternoon at the scene of a home at Empire Lane and Cavalier Drive, near Moores Mill Road.

They executed a search warrant for narcotics and stolen property there. They were not specific about what they found during the raid, but WHNT News 19 learned some of the items recovered include methamphetamine, pills, and a pistol.

Chief Deputy Dave Jernigan said the raid was in connection to burglary cases the department has been working for months.

“For about the past 90 days we’ve been chasing a group of individuals who have been doing burglaries, car burglaries, breaking and entering,” he explained. “We want to shut it down.”

Deputies are still searching for two people of interest: 29-year-old Barry Gene Tipton, Jr. and 31-year-old Summer Ann Binder. They were last seen driving a black Pontiac G6 with pink detailing, Alabama plate CSD172. Deputies say Binder and Tipton drove off fast after arriving and spotting SWAT teams at the home, and they are still on the loose.

Deputies are hopeful they can find the items that were stolen and, because of their work Thursday, close some of the burglary cases. But it’s also about protecting the neighborhood.

“You don’t need a place where narcotics are being distributed in a neighborhood. It draws the wrong crowd. It’s dangerous,” commented Jernigan. “We pulled up and had the residence secure, and neighbors came out and said, ‘We are glad you’re here. This particular residence has been a nuisance,'” he said.

WHNT News 19 witnessed deputies arresting four other people at the home Thursday night.
