DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) - Hundreds of Brookhaven Middle School students were sent home Monday morning shortly after they arrived on campus.

School dismissed at 9 a.m. and students whose parents were working were buses to another school until they could be picked up.

The water main flooded the basement boiler room at the school causing crews to begin pumping out about 18 inches of water.

Maintenance Supervisor Bruce Friday say he believes he break must have happened sometime Sunday.

Students had to be sent home because the standing water warranted the power to the school being shut down.

Around 4 p.m. crews repaired the leak and school officials made the determination school could resume Tuesday.
