DECATUR, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Transportation advises motorists that the inside southbound lane of U.S. 31 on the causeway across the Tennessee River at Decatur will be closed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily Thursday, Sept. 8, through Saturday, Sept. 10.

The closure is necessary for the construction of more than 2,000 feet of concrete barrier that will divide the northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 31.

Two lanes will remain open northbound.

Southbound motorists are advised to use alternate routes, such as the Interstate 65 Tennessee River Bridge, particularly during peak afternoon travel hours.

Further southbound lane closures are possible Sunday, Sept. 11, and Monday, Sept. 12.
