DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – Capt. Vince Baer with the Decatur Police Department says a woman reported she was attacked and sexually assaulted while walking through the Decatur Cemetery on Tuesday evening.

Shortly before 5 p.m., police were dispatched to the convenience store on Highway 20 at 12th Ave. N.W. on the report of a stabbing.

The 29-year-old woman told police she was walking through the Decatur Cemetery to meet a friend at the store for a ride when she was attacked by a male in an orange t-shirt. The victim told police she was sexually assaulted and then stabbed in the abdomen area with a knife.

The victim called her friend who was at the store and he saw the attacker running from the area. The victim’s friend found and carried her back to the store and called police.
