Two killed in Decatur wreck identified

DECATUR, Ala. – Two people were killed and another hospitalized  in a Wednesday morning wreck.

Laurence Thompson, 54, of Huntsville, and Margie Dean, 74, were driving vehicles that collided on on Highway 67 near the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge headquarters, Decatur police said.

The wreck happened around 10 a.m. Police said Thompson lost control of his car and collided with Dean’s.

Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. Dean was taken to Decatur-Morgan Hospital, where police said she died a short time later.

A passenger in the car with Dean, Wanda Clark, 68, of Lacey’s Spring, was taken to Huntsville Hospital in serious condition.

The wreck blocked all eastbound lanes. One westbound lane was converted to eastbound.

Police are still investigating the wreck.
