No one injured after shots fired at car in Decatur Burger King parking lot

DECATUR, Ala. – Decatur Police said no one was injured after a woman shot at her child’s father’s car in the parking lot of the Burger King on Beltline Rd. Tuesday afternoon.

Around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, officers at at Shelton’s Funeral Home reported hearing multiple gunshots coming from the parking lot of the nearby Burger King. When they arrived, the reported seeing a car leaving the parking lot and a man trying to flag them down.

Police said the found the victim’s car had been struck with gunfire. They located the suspect’s car at the Decatur Mall parking lot, where they arrested the driver.

Kimberly Avengowe was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm into an unoccupied vehicle, a felony.  Police said their child had been visiting her father, the victim, and he was giving the child back to its mother when a disturbance broke out between the couple. That’s when police say Avengowe fired multiple rounds, striking the victim’s car.

Police expect more charges to be in the pipeline. They add that no one was struck by the gunfire.

Madison County DHR was notified of the situation and they are following up to make sure the child is in safe hands.
