MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A Virginia man is facing multiple charges after allegedly biting a corrections officer and tasing another while in custody at the Morgan County Jail.
According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), 39-year-old Miles Rea Batson of Centerville, Va., was arrested by the Hartselle Police Department on Tuesday for public intoxication.
While being booked into the Morgan County Jail, Batson became “disorderly and combative” with corrections officers, according to MCSO. Batson attempted to grab the officer’s private parts before ultimately biting him on the thumb and breaking skin, the MCSO’s Facebook post states.
The officer was taken to Decatur Morgan Hospital to be treated for his bite. Deputies and investigators served Batson a warrant for second-degree assault.
Two days later, while Batson was being fingerprinted, MCSO says he grabbed a taser from an officer and began fighting with staff. Batson deployed the taser and struck a corrections officer in the arm and hand, but the officer was able to deploy his taser, according to MCSO. Corrections officers ‘quickly subdued’ Batson and returned him to his cell.
Batson now faces two second-degree assault charges, disarming a law enforcement or corrections officer, and the original public intoxication charge.
He is currently being held at the Morgan County Jail with a $100,000.
