DECATUR, Ala.- A domestic situation brought the Decatur Police Special Response Unit and SWAT team to Parkplace Street just off Point Mallard Parkway.

"We were dispatched out here about 1:30 this afternoon for a call originally of a domestic with a report of a man with a gun," said Lieutenant Proncey Robertson with Decatur Police.

A woman called police saying she had a disagreement with her ex-boyfriend and he refused to leave her home in the 2100th block of Parkplace Street SE. Police say she reported he had a gun and was making threats to her and himself.

The ex-girlfriend left the residence and called police.

Police blocked incoming traffic and evacuated neighboring homes.

Four hours later, police say the man surrendered peacefully. He is in police custody as the determined whether charges are appropriate. Police will withhold his identity unless charges are filed.

Police say he is scheduled to have a mental evaluation.

No shots were fired.
