DECATUR, Ala. – A jury has found Elias Nava guilty of reckless murder. Jurors believe he killed Jim Uriostegui, 18, in what police described as a fight between two groups of people.

Police say they received a call in August of 2013 about a disturbance at the Highway 20 Trailer Court.  The caller reported a large crowd and several people fighting.  More calls came in about shots being fired as police rushed to the scene.

When officers arrived, the crowd dispersed and officers found Uriostegui beaten and wounded from a gunshot to the chest, according to Decatur Police.  Paramedics rushed Uriostegui to Decatur-Morgan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Nava was 16 at the time of the crime, but was charged in the case as an adult. Nava was a self-professed gang member.
