HATTON, Ala. (WHNT) – Three fire departments worked to put out a house fire Wednesday morning in the Hatton area of Lawrence County.

Just after 9 a.m. the Hatton, Mount Hope and Moulton Fire Departments were called to respond to the home on County Road 235.  They saw flames coming from the roof when they arrived.

Three adults live in the home, but were not there during the fire.  The home has heavy smoke and water damage throughout, and heavy fire damage in the kitchen and carport area.

It’s believed the fire started in the kitchen, but it’s not clear how yet.

The American Red Cross is helping the residents who are displaced.

Firefighters stayed on the scene for about three hours, coping with the bitter cold conditions as best they could.  They rotated manpower and took breaks in order to get warm.
