MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. - The Morgan County Sheriff's office says jail officials found an inmate unresponsive.
Authorities indicate emergency crews rendered CPR as they took Jock Jabbar Taylor Jr, 24 of Decatur to Decatur-Morgan Hospital.
The State Bureau of Investigation is at the jail, along with the Sheriff, investigating this incident.
The Sheriff's Office has released a timeline of events that occurred today:

- 2:34 p.m. Officer initiates medical code
- 2:39 p.m. Jail on lockdown

- 4:14 p.m. Media notified
- 6:38 p.m. State Bureau of Investigation arrives
The sheriff's office says they have gathered all of the necessary components to turn the investigation into Taylor's death over to a state agency.
"When this happened here of course trying to save the life was the first instance," explained Mike Swafford with the Morgan County Sheriff's Office. "That's what the focus was. The moment he left the building to go to the hospital, secondary protocols were put in place to secure video evidence.."
The sheriff's office says it has an idea of what may have happened to him based on a review.
"We have our initial idea but anytime something like this happens in any jail in Alabama the state bureau of investigations is called in. It becomes their investigation," Swafford added.
The sheriff's office says the next step is waiting for toxicology results to return.
That's when the State Bureau of Investigation can release what they believe happened to Taylor.
After an event like this takes place, the sheriffs office re-evaluates emergency practices.
"The sheriff's already met with the warden," explained Swafford. "Video has already been reviewed multiple times to see where everybody was, what happened, could anything be changed..."
Those steps are part of an internal review that will also continue.
"It is jail, it is an environment where things can happen. Our goal is to maintain control, composure and also treat people... like people and that's what we try to do here."
